This Cookie Policy explains what cookies and similar technologies skrollit.net uses, why we use them, and how you can control them. It should be read alongside our Privacy Policy.

In summary: skrollit.net currently sets no cookies at all. The only data stored on your device is a single functional preference held in your browser's local storage (your unit-system choice), and our analytics run entirely cookieless. We do not use advertising cookies at this time, though this may change in the future (see Section 6).

Cookies are small text files placed on your device (computer, phone, or tablet) by websites you visit. They are widely used to make websites work efficiently and to provide information to site operators.

Cookies are not programs and cannot carry viruses or malware. They can only be read by the website that created them (or, in the case of third-party cookies, the service that set them).

In addition to cookies, we use browser local storage — a mechanism built into your browser that allows websites to store small amounts of data directly on your device. Unlike cookies, local storage data is not sent to servers with each request; it remains entirely on your device. We use it to remember your preferences between visits.

This data is stored locally on your device and is never transmitted to our servers. Because it is essential to providing the functionality you have chosen, it does not require your consent under the ePrivacy Directive.

We plan to expand local storage use in the future (e.g. theme preferences, language settings) and will update this policy accordingly.

We use Matomo, an open-source, privacy-respecting analytics platform that we host ourselves. This means your data is never shared with Matomo's company or any other third party.

Our Matomo runs in fully cookieless mode: it sets no cookies whatsoever on your device and stores no persistent identifier for you. There is therefore no analytics cookie table to list here.

Matomo records which pages you visit, your approximate location (country/region only), and your browser and device type. It anonymises your IP address before storage, masking three of its four bytes. It does not track you across other websites, does not share data with any third party, and does not build advertising profiles.

Because this analytics stores no cookies and no personal data on your device, it does not require your consent under the ePrivacy Directive. We rely on our legitimate interest in understanding, at an aggregate level, how the site is used — see our Privacy Policy for the legal basis.

skrollit.net is a static site and does not set session cookies of its own. If our hosting provider's infrastructure ever sets a strictly-necessary technical cookie (for example, for load balancing or security), it would be temporary, expire when you close your browser, and contain no personally identifying information.

Because skrollit.net sets no cookies and our analytics are cookieless and store no personal data on your device, there are no non-essential cookies to consent to. Under the EU ePrivacy Directive, consent is required only for storage that is not strictly necessary — and the single item we do store (your unit-system preference in local storage) is a functional choice you actively make, which is exempt.

For this reason, skrollit.net does not show a cookie consent banner: there is nothing that legally requires one. This keeps the site lighter and removes an interruption to your experience. Should we ever introduce cookies that require consent (for example, advertising — see Section 6), we will add an appropriate consent mechanism at that time.

We may introduce advertising on skrollit.net in the future — for example, through a service such as Google AdSense. Advertising networks typically use their own cookies to display relevant ads, measure performance, limit ad frequency, and build aggregated interest profiles.

Should we introduce advertising, this will involve third-party cookies from the advertising provider. We will:

• Update this Cookie Policy before any advertising cookies are activated
• Update our consent banner to include an "Advertising" category
• Request fresh, explicit consent where required by law
• Provide a clear opt-out mechanism

We will not activate advertising cookies without first informing you and obtaining appropriate consent.

Since we set no cookies and show no consent banner, there are no cookie choices to revisit. The only data stored on your device is your unit-system preference in local storage, which you can clear at any time through your browser settings (see Section 7.2). Clearing it simply resets your unit choice on your next visit.

Note: Blocking or deleting local storage will reset your site preferences (e.g. your unit system choice) and you will need to set them again.

We will update this Cookie Policy whenever we introduce new cookies or technologies, or when our use of existing ones changes significantly. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the latest revision.

If we introduce anything that requires your consent, we will present the relevant information and consent mechanism before it takes effect.
